Ultra-Thin Nicotine Pouches: Slimmest Formats Compared
Thin nicotine pouches compared: ZAR's under-1mm AirPouch, ZYN's mini dry pouch, on! PLUS mini and VELO slim. Format, pouches per can and FDA status.
TL;DR
Thin pouches are about discretion: less of a bulge under the lip. Only one brand, ZAR, states a thickness (under 1mm, per zarpouch.com). The others describe their pouches by format: ZYN's standard pouch is a mini dry pouch, on! PLUS is a mini, and VELO is a slim. If FDA authorization matters to you, ZYN and on! PLUS are the thin options that have it; ZAR and VELO do not.
In one sentence: ZAR is the thin pouch with a stated thickness; ZYN and on! PLUS are the small-format pouches with FDA authorization.
The formats at a glance

Specs come from each brand's US site and our Brand Facts records; FDA status comes from FDA's authorized nicotine pouch list, current through August 21, 2026.
ZAR: the only stated thickness
ZAR built its brand around the format. It calls the pouch an "AirPouch", made with what it calls DuraPress technology, and describes it as under 1mm thick; its product pages list the form as "Ultra Slim". ZAR also says the formula is pH-balanced at about 7 and sweetened with stevia rather than sucrose or xylitol. Every can holds 20 pouches, and the range is unusually wide, from 3mg for newer users to 16mg and 35mg cans that are far stronger than anything on FDA's authorized list.
Ten flavors are sold: Fresh Mint, Spearmint Fresh, Wintergreen Bright, Citrus, Lemon Crush, Cola, Watermelon, Strawberry Lush, Grape Splash and Berry Vibe. ZAR does not state whether its nicotine is synthetic or tobacco-derived.
ZAR is not on FDA's authorized list. See our ZAR Fresh Mint 6mg review and ZAR vs ZYN for how it compares in use.
ZYN: small, dry and authorized
ZYN's standard pouch is a mini dry format, 15 to a can, in 3mg and 6mg. ZYN does not publish a thickness, but the mini dry pouch is one of the smaller pouches on US shelves. All 20 standard ZYN products, ten flavors at two strengths, received FDA marketing authorization in January 2025. For the difference between ZYN's formats, see ZYN Mini vs Slim.
on! PLUS: mini format, higher strengths
on! PLUS is a mini pouch, 20 to a can, in Mint, Wintergreen and Tobacco. FDA authorized six on! PLUS products, the 6mg and 9mg versions of each flavor, in December 2025. That makes on! PLUS the authorized option if you want a small pouch above 6mg.
VELO: slim format
VELO describes its pouches as slim, 20 to a can. VELO has filed premarket applications but is not on FDA's authorized list as of August 21, 2026.
What thinness does and doesn't change
A thinner pouch is mainly about how it looks and feels under the lip. It does not tell you how strong the pouch is: check the mg figure on the can. If you are new to pouches, start low, whatever the format; our 3mg vs 6mg guide explains how to choose.
Bottom line
- Thinnest by the brand's own description: ZAR, the only brand that states a thickness (under 1mm), but not FDA authorized.
- Small and FDA authorized: ZYN mini dry (3mg, 6mg) or on! PLUS mini (6mg, 9mg).
- Most pouches per can: ZAR, on! PLUS and VELO all hold 20.
Nicotine pouches are for adults 21 and older. Nicotine is addictive.
